Effective Solutions for these Seasonal Pests

Ticks:

The American Dog Tick is commonly found on dogs and readily attacks humans. It is of medical importance because, it carries the organisms of Rocky Mountain spotted fever, and tularemia. It also causes tick paralysis. The unengorged adult female is about 3/16 inch long, color brown with whitish to gray markings often to silvery hue.

The Deer Tick / Blacklegged Tick prefers to feed on the white-tailed deer. It is of medical importance because it carries the organism of Lyme disease. The un engorged female is about 1/8 inch long, color orangish brown, except legs.

Fleas:

Fleas can transmit several diseases such as plague and murine typhus. Adults are about 1/8 inch long. It is not necessary to have pets in the building in order to have fleas present. Since fleas can jump about 6 inches vertically, they can easily hitch a ride on shoes, trousers, etc. A female flea can lay between 400-500 eggs in her lifetime.See the section on "Preparations" for a list of what to do before a treatment.
